Destination Review: Cambodia

The first thing that may come to mind when you think of Cambodia is most likely Angkor Wat. It is, after all, best known for this UNESCO World Heritage Site, the largest religious monument in the world. For amateur archaeologists, photographers, and adventurers, the site of this former ancient kingdom has lots to reveal. The seemingly endless spires and passageways allow one to get lost among the structures and make new discoveries where roots are overtaking crumbling, ancient temples. Taking in sunrise at this temple complex, you will be amazed at this wonder of the world which took 30 years and 300,000 workers to construct.

Siem Reap is a charming town, reinventing itself as a hub of art and culture. The emerging arts scene is giving Cambodians a chance to showcase their creative and artistic talents.

The country of Cambodia is filled with highlights including the floating villages of the Tonle Sap Lake, and Angkor Thom, a walled city which served as the ancient royal capitol of the Kmer Empire from 1181. But what is most striking about this country of fascinating and ancient history, is the gentle Cambodian people.
