Dorado Beach and Puerto Rico – A Wonderful Place to Create Memories

View from the pool on the Adults-Only side

Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, is a 115 room boutique hotel nestled within a 1,400 acre tropical sanctuary. This haven is built to accommodate even the most discerning travelers. It’s truly left it’s mark on me and the memories we made, I will forever cherish.  There is so much to share, but I will focus on the high points from my recent visits.

On-site water park – The Watermill (complimentary for hotel guests)

Every room has a view of the ocean and if you opt for a room with 2 beds, both of them will be king sized beds.  The staff is incredibly genuine. Everyone will stop what they are doing, look you in the eye and say ‘hello.’

Even the beach concierge took a minute to sit down in the sand and ask my daughter if he could build with her.

Bikes are part of your stay at Dorado and accommodate even the smallest travelers. Training wheels and baby carriages are available at your request. Take advantage of them and enjoy the historic Rockefeller Nature trail.  Private plunge pools can be heated an additional 4°.  Let them know and the engineering team will take care of it!

Personal butlers known as Embajadores are assigned to each room and available to make sure all your requests are fulfilled. They are incredibly accessible and want to do all they can to enhance your stay. And believe me they do!

Guests enjoy privileges at the Watermill, an on-site facility equipped with 2 water slides a lazy river and several splash areas.  The spa is unforgettable. A five acre facility dedicated to total wellness and relaxation. After the reopening of the hotel, this spa needs to be nominated for best in the world. Condé Nast take note!

World class spa – Spa Botanico

Swim diapers, sunscreen, sand toys and cooling mist is all complimentary. And when all the sand toys were being used, a member of the staff took notice, purchased a complete set for my kids, and after his shift, he brought it to my villa the next day. Wow, talk about going above and beyond!!

Dorado has 3 helipads. The airport is only about 40-minutes away, mostly all interstate, but depending on when you land you’ll get stuck in traffic coming in. Therefore, accessing the hotel by helicopter is an option. Helicopter tours on the island also fly from Dorado.

Kids 5 and under eat free at their signature restaurant COA, which starts with breakfast. But you better believe we spotted a Krispy Kreme off the exit and had to make a run at least one morning! Take advantage of the kids activities through the Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment program. This is designed for children ages 4 and up, but if you have younger children they can participate with an adult joining. We experienced “creatures of the night” and learned a lot about the nocturnal animals indigenous to this area.

Take the time to explore the local area! We rented a car and chartered a catamaran one late afternoon to see the sunset. Sail PR was very accommodating and took the time to share historical information about each area we sailed past.

Dorado and Puerto Rico as a whole is a wonderful place to create memories!
