I traveled to Egypt with Trafalgar tours. I think going with a group is the only way to go when traveling to Egypt. What a fabulous experience seeing the rich history and architecture!
A visa is required to enter the country. I got mine before I left the United States but you can easily get one at the airport when you arrive in Cairo. It is approximately $15 and needs to be paid in Egyptian pounds.
We also did a 3 night Nile cruise that started in Aswan and ended in Luxor. The Nile cruise is a great way to easily see many of the Temples. The ship only holds around 100 passengers, making it easy to get on and off. The standard staterooms were 225 sq ft.
The food was good, but you do need be very careful in what you choose to eat when you are in Egypt. No salads and only bottled water are some of the restrictions. Your tour guide will let you know what is safe to eat and what is not.
A highlight was an optional excursion to Abu Simbel. It’s basically a 4 hour trip (including the round trip flight) to see the Temple of Ramses II with its 4 statues of the pharaoh and queen Nefertari on the Temple of Hathor.
In Cairo we saw the Sphinx and the sole surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Giza. We also explored the Egyptian Museum, home to the treasures of King Tutankhamen’s tomb.
I highly recommend visiting Egypt. It’s a trip you will never forget!
