Luxury Hotel Review: Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa

May 30, 2017 | By

I just returned from a familiarization trip to Los Cabos, Mexico, sponsored by Delta Vacations.

First, we need to clarify the use of the term Los Cabos.  The two cities at the tip of the Baja peninsula are San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The translation of Cabo is ‘cape’ as in cape is a headland or a promontory of large size extending into a body of water. The combination of the two ‘capes’ is Los Cabos.  The area between the two cities is commonly known as the corridor. With the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Sea of Cortez on the other this causes a serious undertow and many of the beaches are not safe for swimming.

The hotel I stayed at, Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa, was located right on the marina in Cabo San Lucas. This is an Adults Only, all-inclusive resort which I describe as hip, chic, modern, and active with nice, spacious rooms. Breathless is made up of two buildings with 169 guest rooms in the larger building, and the pool, spa, and most of the restaurants in the other. This helps to keep things quiet in the guest room section.

You can enjoy the Unlimited-Luxury® experience, which includes four dining venues matched by carefully selected wines and a variety of premium spirits served up at four bars and lounges all without limits and required reservations. Essentially you get to live big by partying all day and night while enjoying a packed schedule of parties and entertainment. There is a separate, quiet pool located at the guest room building for those not wanting to join in the activities and entertainment taking place at the larger infinity pool.

This is a great place for folks wanting to be close to the lively city of Cabo San Lucas and in particular the marina with all the activities, including fishing. The marina comes to life starting early at sunrise with the fishing boats located just below the hotel that has captains, their crew and barking seals waking you up. But they soon go about their business and things quiet down.  The jetty created by the marina allows for one of the rare beaches where you can swim. Delta Vacations has this rated at four star with the opportunity to upgrade to the “Xhale” Club with extra amenities, club lounge access and spa hydrotherapy access.

I had the opportunity to stay at two different hotels and to review a total of ten hotels, but with the amount of construction going on I’ll have to return in a few years to review some new properties as up to seventeen are being added!
