Luxury Hotel Review: Club Med Kani, Maldives

Splattered in the Indian Ocean on the peacock blue clear water are motus of varying sizes (a motu is a reef islet – like a very small island) hosting beach resorts with assorted accommodations and amenities. The Maldives, as they are affectionately known, play host to jet setters and beach lovers from around the world.

The most popular and yearned for overwater bungalows and suites perch on the water with privacy and even personal plunge pools, in some cases. From the U.S. it isn’t a convenient jaunt, but the islands reward you with world class snorkeling, diving and unique coral. Pricing is determined by the brand, style and amenities of each resort. Food has to be brought in, since the islands are not sustainable, so you must be prepared for the additional expense unless you stay at one of several all-inclusive properties.

Club Med offers a great opportunity in the Maldives. After a motor boat transfer from Male, the capital, you will find yourself at a beautiful resort with overwater suites sporting huge decks with ladders into the water for your private snorkel or swim. These units are for adults only and are set in their own private portion of the small island.

The deluxe beach bungalows are set back a safe distance from the beach to avoid the sunbathers and water sports, but with great views of the Indian Ocean. Though the bungalows appear in pairs, you still have a great sense of privacy and are able to enjoy your own front porch for reading or relaxing.

All units are ensuite and include all non-motorized watersports, extensive meal options, including a couple of reservation-only restaurants, a boutique, large pool, 2 bars and lots of optional activities to keep you as busy and full as you desire while you absorb the serene beauty of this gorgeous piece of paradise.
