Luxury Hotel Review: Hotel Sacher Wien

I recently returned from an Austria Study Tour that was sponsored by Virtuoso. The Austrian Tourist Board went all out to showcase two of the iconic cities of Austria; Vienna and Salzburg. Although I have traveled to Europe many times, this was my first trip to Austria.

My first two nights were spent in one of Vienna’s landmark hotels, the Hotel Sacher Wien. You may know of the Original Sacher Torte, one of Austria’s most famous culinary inventions. This most famous cake in the world is a Viennese institution in its own right ever since it was invented by Franz Sacher in 1832. The privately owned hotel that has been open since 1876 still has impeccable elegance and a wonderful ambiance about it. The location of this hotel in Vienna is second to none; near shopping along Kärntner Straße, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, and the Opera House. My hotel room (the Baal Suite) overlooked the Albertine Museum. The guestrooms have been completely refurbished to give it an updated look and feel, yet the hotel has kept and showcases all of its original artwork and antiques.

For those looking to stay at one of Europe’s most famous hotels, one that has timeless elegance and gracious hospitality, the Hotel Sacher Wien needs to be on your list.
