If you are looking for a quiet getaway not too far from home, I’d highly recommend a visit to the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island. Amelia Island is about 40 minutes from the Jacksonville, FL airport. The Ritz-Carlton is a beautiful hotel that sits atop the dunes and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.
This is a great location for couples, families or a girls weekend at the spa. You name it. I had the great pleasure of spending some quality time in the spa (Louis, you did a great job!). The spa features a private pool, which is great for those that don’t want to share a pool with families. However, the main pool is a welcoming place for children of all ages. There is a “splash zone” with fountains… I know many an older child that would have loved to spend some time there.
In addition, I highly recommend you stop by The Salt Shop for the afternoon salt tasting. My husband and I went and were completely enlightened regarding the many health benefits you receive from salt. Not to mention impressed by the selection of gourmet and house infused salts.
The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island has a resident pirate, who visited the lobby on Friday evening to toast the beginning of the weekend. Kids and adults alike gathered around for a picture with the pirate and his macaw!
The staff at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island truly go out of their way to make everyone’s visit a memorable one. They are friendly, outgoing and helpful at every turn.
