Iceland in the winter? Well, this country may not be what you think. There is ice there, yes. There are glaciers, geysers, volcanoes, thermal springs, lava tubes, glacier lakes and so much more.

The city of Reykjavik is the main entry to this country and there are flights from many cities in the US directly to Reykjavik. You could also use this routing as a gateway city for your next European vacation, and spend a few days on a stopover in Iceland.

While in Iceland, be sure to try their wonderful seafood. Also, take the time to hike a glacier with an experienced guide. They will keep you out late enough to try to experience the Northern Lights and probably take you to a farm house for homemade hot soup and bread.

Try a new experience: snorkel in a glacier lake in a dry suit or go caving in a lava tube. You won’t believe how much fun you can have riding the Icelandic horses with their flowing manes as you trot across a lava field. Discover the spot where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. Eat bread or cookies baked in the thermal hot springs. Drink water from a glacier lake; take an ATV or Jeep trip. Do some shopping and buy an Icelandic sweater or hat. Eat. Eat. Eat.

There is much to be discovered in Iceland. Experience it for yourself!
