Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa

New Mexico is one of my favorite states; I always feel a great spiritual energy when I visit. I love the culture, the art, and absolutely love the food. As I plan my annual trip I always make it a point to spend time at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa. I’m addicted! And I love it!

You will find the expected spa treatments, the pampering, and the gorgeous northern New Mexico southwestern charm. But what I enjoy most are the mineral hot springs. Guests come to Ojo Caliente for one thing: the healing waters. Ojo Caliente offers four types of hot springs: lithium, iron, soda and arsenic. Each of which is reputed to be beneficial for different ailments from arthritis to digestion. Its ten pools are filled with different types and combinations of mineral waters, ranging in temperatures from 80-109 degrees. And the resort’s full-service spa offers an over-the-top serene experience.

Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs has been around for decades, and is becoming very popular. The Ojo Caliente Spa has been updated with a southwestern feel, adobe décor. The main building is a simple historic hacienda style with rich woods. The entry to the mineral hot springs is through the main building.

Check in is easy. You just pick up your towel and continue through to the pools. (You should bring your own robe and flip-flops.) Each pool is a little different in minerals and temperature, so be sure to try them all. My favorite was the mud bath. The mud is like soft clay, almost the consistency of powder. You cover yourself in mud then just lie in the sun and bake. When you rinse off the mud, your skin feels like silk.

Locals go for the day, and I’ve enjoyed day trips several times. I arrive late morning and enjoy the pools. The entire environment is devoted to your relaxation. However, you will not want to leave! I suggest you spend at least one night. Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Spa offers great packages. Make sure to pre-schedule your treatments and make reservations at the Artesian restaurant. It is so delicious you won’t want to miss.

Accommodations range from simple and affordable to deluxe Pueblo suites with kiva fire places. I stayed in a Pueblo suite; a great choice for a romantic weekend. You will also find luxury accommodations and private homes for larger families and small groups.

Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs and Spa is a magical place that will truly restore your spirits.
