Princess Cruises: Norwegian Fjords Cruise Review

I just got back from sailing the Norwegian Fjords on the Emerald Princess. Our cruise left from South Hampton in England, and then we sailed to Stavanger, Skjolden, Alesund, and Bergen. Norway is a beautiful country and sailing through the fjords was an awesome experience. We visited stave churches (intact wooden churches from the Middle Ages), saw beautiful scenery, and experienced a few raindrops along the way.

In Stavanger, we cruised on a small boat in the Lysefjord and saw waterfalls and quaint villages along the way. Pulpit Rock was impressive from the water – you can climb to the top for a breathtaking view of the country.

Some of the homes in Norway had sod roofs and were fascinating as well as picturesque. In Alesund, we took the Hop On, Hop off Bus for $35.00 and rode around the city. We visited the Stiftinga Sunnmore Museum where we were able to see a lot of the sod roof structures from years past.

Then on to Bergen, the second largest city in Norway, called the “Seattle of Norway” because of it’s fish market. You can even buy whale to eat at the market. We bought a cup of shrimp and had a very tasty half sandwich of smoked salmon for only $20.00.

Norway is an expensive place to visit. They have their own currency – the Norwegian Krone – and it is 6 Krones to the US dollar.

I highly recommend going to Norway on a cruise as it was a great way to visit the country and see the fjords.
