Review: Hemingways Ol Seki Mara Camp in Kenya

On my recent trip to Kenya, I was able to spend some time at Hemingways Ol Seki Mara Camp. This luxury tent camp is located on the Naboisho Conservancy, a couple hours north of the Massai Mara.

As we flew into the Ol Seki air strip all I could see was the African landscape, and with just a village here and there, it felt vast and forever. We were welcomed by our driver and Massai guide, and we were treated to a cool drink.  Then we continued on to the Ol Seki tent camp. Because we were in the bush, we enjoyed a game drive on the way there. I traveled the third week in September, which is the height of the migration season, so we were able to spot the Big Five (lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros) plus more.

Once we arrived at Ol Seki, we were greeted by Melinda, the manager, who gave us a brief orientation in the comfort of the library.  We enjoyed the great location, with the elevated position overlooking the plains, equipped with a telescope for animal viewing.

Ol Seki offers 16 luxury safari tents, each with breathtaking views of the Mara plains. The tents are luxurious living spaces, six are uniquely rounded tents each with a double bed, and a single bed dressed in high quality linens. Large en-suite bathroom and changing area with flush toilets and hot showers allow for total comfort while maintaining the safari atmosphere. You will also find a library and dining room. Ol Seki is a full board accommodation, which means the meals are included (and delicious!).

I loved my stay in the Samba Suite – thank you to our butler, Pauline, who made sure we had a warm drink and fresh baked goodies for our early morning drives which were my favorite. I loved being up early and watching the sun come out, and it’s also a great time to spot some of the animals.

Ol Seki offers privacy and exclusivity in one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife areas. In addition to the wildlife in the reserve, there are additional activities at Hemingways Ol Seki:  Night drives, guided game walks, Sundown Safari, and visits to the local Maasai village.  I enjoyed all of these!

I highly recommend you experience three or four nights at Ol Seki. Great for families, company getaways, and honeymooners.
