Seabourn Sojourn

Last week I had the opportunity to sail the Caribbean debut of Seabourn’s new yacht Sojourn.  All I can say is that she is an incredibly elegant lady of the sea and a beautiful addition to the Seabourn fleet!  The following are some descriptions and critiques of the new vessel.First impressions are of a serene, spacious, elegant yacht. Décor is muted, mainly neutrals, with splashes of color – dazzling orange and yellow cushions on the spa sun loungers, the green glass bar and turquoise and cream banquettes in the Observation Bar. It’s like a boutique hotel that’s stylish and comfortable but not too ‘out there’ – which is exactly what Seabourn’s design team intended; luxurious, comfortable, familiar. 

Seabourn Sojourn provides the most exclusive all-suite accommodation available at sea. They have 225 suites in total, 90 percent of which have private verandas. Top of the range suites include Wintergarden Suites with private solarium and veranda, and Signature Suites with sweeping verandas and unrivaled views facing forward. All suites feature separate living areas and bedrooms, writing desks with personalized stationery, iPod and MP3 connections and spacious granite bathrooms with separate bath and shower and twin sinks.

The two-deck, state of the art Spa at Seabourn features Spa Villas which can be reserved for hours of pure indulgence and relaxation.

The new vessel will offer four dining venues, including a spacious open-seating restaurant capable of seating all guests. Six bars and lounges will serve a full range of beverages including fine wines and spirits with Seabourn’s compliments.

The Veranda cabins are a generous 300 square ft inside with luxurious marble and granite bathrooms including full sized tub, separate glass shower cubicle and a big stash of Molton Brown goodies, as well as L’Occitane soap. Décor in the cabin itself is restful: chocolate brown, cream and gold. Amenities in the living area include flat screen TV, iPod docks and WiFi.

The biggest suites are dotted around the ship but decks 9 and 10 exclusively house the unusual Penthouses (PH grade), which have a sleeping area separated from the living area by decorated glass panels, creating a nifty room-within-a-room that can be screened off by heavy chocolate silk curtains if you’re entertaining guests, or if one wants to sleep and the other watch TV.

Two big Winter Garden suites on Deck 7 are perfect for entertaining, with their big, curved leather sofas, glass dining tables and extra-deep balconies cantilevered out over the side. Each has a conservatory-like glass-enclosed bath overlooked by potted plants, enjoying uninterrupted views out to sea. This is in addition to a more private bathroom with a rather kinky-looking circular bath.

The forward-facing Signature and Owner’s Suites have huge, wraparound balconies but are windy when the ship is at sea. The Signature Suites are the largest for entertaining in terms of indoor and outdoor space.
