Southwest Changes Fee Structure

Have you seen the news about the changes to the fee structure at Southwest Airlines?  They are forecasting an increase of $100 million in revenue in 2013 from charging for no-shows on flights and premium boarding positions.

You can still check two bags for free, and there are no change fees, but now passengers who don’t cancel their tickets before a flight will be charged a fee.

Southwest already charges to reserve an early boarding position, and that fee will increase from $10 to $12.50 in 2013.  Also, starting next year, passengers can get an early-boarding pass by paying a fee at the gate.
