So you’ve decided to take a vacation. That’s great, but now what? Where do you start? Here are a few tips to get you going.
1. Where do you want to go? And how much time do you want to spend there? Determining where you want to go and for how long will help you create your budget. It may sound rudimentary, but it is essential. Listen to tips from friends, family, co-workers. More importantly consider your lifestyle. Just because your neighbor went zip-lining in Costa Rica doesn’t mean it’s the right trip for you.
2. Determine your budget. Are you on a tight budget? Or are you flexible with wiggle room in order to get in all the “must do” activities? Knowing your budget, and how that translates to what you’ll be able to plan is key. Make sure your travel advisor knows this up front.
3. What activities are “must do’s”? Do you have bucket-list items that you’ll regret not doing? If so, plan these into your budget, and don’t compromise. Make sure your vacation is in fact YOUR vacation, and not someone else’s idea of your vacation.
4. Work with a travel advisor that specializes in this location or specializes in your interests. Travel advisors are a great resource. They will work within your budget and will help you plan a vacation that creates life long memories. Plan on spending a little of your travel budget for their services. This can make the difference between a good trip and a trip of a lifetime.
